General

About Zen Handymen.

Q.What areas do Zen Handymen cover?

We cover Sydney's Inner West seven days a week — Newtown, Marrickville, Leichhardt, Enmore, Stanmore, Petersham, Dulwich Hill and the surrounding suburbs. Ask if your suburb isn't listed; we usually still cover it.

Q.How much does a handyman cost?

Small one-hour fixes start from around $110. Larger jobs are quoted per project after a quick look. Quotes are always free and given in writing before work starts.

Q.How quickly can you get to a job?

We aim to reply to every enquiry within 30 minutes during the day. Most bookings are within 24 to 48 hours, and urgent repairs like broken locks, leaks or storm damage are usually same day.

Q.Are you insured?

Yes. We carry full public liability insurance and only use licensed trades for any electrical or plumbing work that falls outside general handyman scope.

Q.Do you charge a callout fee?

No standard callout fee for booked jobs. If you need us to look at a larger job for a written quote, we come out for free within our Inner West service area.

Q.What payment do you accept?

Bank transfer or card. Payment is due once the job is finished and you're happy with the work. No deposits on standard jobs.

Q.Do you work weekends?

Yes. We book jobs seven days a week. Weekend work is the same rate as weekday work.

Q.Can you do multiple small jobs in one visit?

Yes. Most of our bookings are a punch list of 4 to 10 small jobs. We work through them in order and only charge for the time on site.

Service · Painting

Painting questions.

FAQ · Painting

Common questions from local clients.

Q.How long does a room repaint take?

Most standard bedrooms and living rooms are one day for two coats, including prep and clean up. Whole-house jobs are quoted after a walk-through.

Q.Do you supply the paint?

Yes. We use Dulux or Taubmans as standard, and match to your chosen colour. If you have a specific brand or code, we work to that.

Q.Can you paint over dark or feature walls?

Yes. Dark walls usually need an undercoat plus two top coats to cover cleanly, which we include in the quote.

Service · Carpentry & Repairs

Carpentry & Repairs questions.

FAQ · Carpentry & Repairs

Common questions from local clients.

Q.Can you fit a new door in an old frame?

Yes. Old frames are rarely square so we plane and adjust the door to fit cleanly, then align the strike and latch.

Q.Do you replace rotten decking boards?

Yes. We match the profile and timber where possible, replace the affected boards, and treat the surrounding area.

Q.Can you build custom shelving or built-ins?

Yes. Simple bookshelves, alcove built-ins and storage cupboards are all in scope. We measure on-site and build to suit.

Service · Home Repairs

Home Repairs questions.

FAQ · Home Repairs

Common questions from local clients.

Q.Can you do multiple small jobs in one visit?

Yes. Most bookings are a punch list of 4 to 10 small jobs. We work through them in order and only charge for the time on site.

Q.Do you fix leaks?

We fix leaky taps, showerheads and toilet cisterns as general maintenance. Anything behind the wall or new plumbing runs is passed to a licensed plumber.

Q.Can you patch and paint a plaster hole?

Yes. We patch, sand and paint to blend with the existing wall. Colour matching is included when you know the paint code.

Service · Pressure Cleaning

Pressure Cleaning questions.

FAQ · Pressure Cleaning

Common questions from local clients.

Q.Will pressure cleaning damage my timber deck?

Not the way we do it. Timber needs a wider fan tip and lower pressure than concrete, and we work with the grain to avoid furring.

Q.How long does a typical driveway take?

A standard single driveway is around 1 to 2 hours depending on staining. Heavier oil or moss can add time.

Q.Do I need to provide water?

Yes, we run from your outside tap. If you don't have one accessible let us know and we'll bring extra hose.

Service · Lock Repairs

Lock Repairs questions.

FAQ · Lock Repairs

Common questions from local clients.

Q.Can you come out same day for a broken lock?

Usually yes. Urgent lock jobs are prioritised in the daily run, especially after a break-in or lost keys.

Q.Can you re-key so old keys no longer work?

Yes, on most standard deadbolts. Re-keying is cheaper and faster than replacing the whole lock.

Q.Do you install smart or keypad locks?

Yes. We fit most retail smart locks (Yale, Lockwood, August) and check the door alignment so it locks cleanly.

Service · Fly Screens

Fly Screens questions.

FAQ · Fly Screens

Common questions from local clients.

Q.Can you re-mesh screens I already have?

Yes. If the frame is straight we replace the mesh and spline on-site or take the frame back for a quick turnaround.

Q.Do you offer pet-resistant mesh?

Yes. Heavy-duty pet mesh resists claws and pushing, and can be fitted to most existing frames.

Q.How long does a full window screen take?

A single standard window is usually 30 to 60 minutes on-site once we've measured. Multiple windows are batched in one visit.

Service · Gate Repairs

Gate Repairs questions.

FAQ · Gate Repairs

Common questions from local clients.

Q.Why does my gate keep dragging?

Usually a loose or rotten post, not the hinge. We check the post first and only replace hardware once the frame is solid.

Q.Can you fit self-closing hinges for pool compliance?

Yes. We fit compliant self-closing hinges and magnetic latches for pool gates and can quote the whole compliance sign-off.

Q.Do you build new gates?

Yes. Simple timber and metal gates built to match your existing fence, painted or stained to suit.

Service · Pictures & Mirrors

Pictures & Mirrors questions.

FAQ · Pictures & Mirrors

Common questions from local clients.

Q.Can you mount a heavy mirror on a plasterboard wall?

Yes. We locate the studs where possible and use rated toggle or metal anchors when we can't, so the mirror is safe long term.

Q.Do you plan gallery walls before hanging?

Yes. We lay the pieces out on the floor first, agree the spacing with you, then hang once so nothing needs re-patching.

Q.Can you mount a TV and hide the cables?

Yes. TV mounting on any wall type, with in-wall cable runs where the wall construction allows.
